God’s Goodness in Papua New Guinea

In 2021, we are excited to partner with two sisters in Papua New Guinea to help them engage the prison population of their country. Several years ago, Caroline and Grace Tom came to America from their home of Papua New Guinea to attend Marietta Bible College, in Marietta, OH. After finishing Bible college, they desired for God to use them in Christian ministry among their people. So in 2019, they returned to Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea to begin their ministry.

Far off in the Pacific, missionaries like John G. Paton (1824-1907) have labored in the “South Seas” for the last hundred years. Despite the physical and cultural challenges present in places like the New Hebrides, the Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea, great mission success has taken place across the region. Churches have been started, and Bible translation work has brought the Bible to the native tongues of many people for the very first time.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the world’s most complex nations by ethnic groups and languages. Around 830 languages are spoken among the hundreds PNG’s scattered ethnic groups.

Earlier this year, CLI reached out to Caroline and Grace to inquire about their interest in partnering with us. During the course of one conversation with Caroline, she said, “We have been praying for a long time that God would allow us to be a part of something like this.” God had prepared fertile ground for us to expand our prison ministry program, and we are excited to begin planning our outreach.

Over the next several weeks, our partners will visit several facilities and churches to identify ministry opportunities and potential volunteers. Pastors are already getting excited about being involved in helping the incarcerated come to know Christ as Savior and working with them in discipleship. As we begin work in this new country, we are praising God saying, “For the LORD is good; His loving kindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.”  (Ps. 100:5)
